Enfield Night Table
What we call bedrooms, the Shakers called "retiring rooms". At the Great Stone Dwelling in Enfield, N.H. Shaker community - where this piece originated - each retiring room accommodated as many as four Shakers. Aside from the beds, the rooms contained only a rocker, a table like this one, one or two candlestands, a hanging sconce, and perhaps a mirror.
The design of this piece is typical of the refined work of the Enfield Shakers. The original is in a private collection. We make the Enfield Night Table in clear hard maple, with a drawer interior of pine.
