New Lebanon Shaker Oval Boxes

To produce a Shaker oval bentwood box, the cherry "swallowtails" are carefully cut by hand, immersed in very hot water and bent them around a wooden form. The sides are fastened with solid copper tacks. Tops and bottoms are attached with wooden pegs. These Shaker oval boxes are unique because they are made on reproductions of the original forms and templates.

The boxes shown here are made in select Pennsylvania cherry, then painted and lightly rubbed to look like a rare set made at the New Lebanon, New York Shaker community about 1830 - 1850. Also available as a set of three.
